5 Daily Habits for Better Bladder Health

Simple lifestyle changes can make a big difference to your bladder health. Here are five habits to adopt today.

1. Stay Hydrated (But Not Too Much)

Drink 6-8 glasses of water daily. Too little fluid concentrates your urine and irritates the bladder; too much overworks it.

2. Limit Bladder Irritants

Certain foods and drinks can irritate your bladder: - Caffeine (coffee, tea, cola) - Alcohol - Acidic foods (citrus, tomatoes) - Spicy foods - Artificial sweeteners

3. Don't Rush or Push

When using the toilet, sit comfortably and allow your bladder to empty naturally. Don't strain or rush — this can weaken your pelvic floor over time.

4. Go When You Need To

Don't hold on for too long, but also don't go 'just in case' too often. Aim to urinate every 3-4 hours during the day.

5. Maintain Good Posture

Sit with your feet flat on the floor and lean slightly forward when on the toilet. This position helps your pelvic floor muscles relax and allows complete bladder emptying.
